Fans Demand Detainment of Individual Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the actress are demanding that a person who leaped a fence and seized the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared clip depicts the Australian man shoving aside photographers and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a promenade accompanied by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being detained", though court documents showed that he was due to be present on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram feed features clips of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney performance in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the area last December.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is obviously a legal violation," wrote an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Numerous followers blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her May 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented a further message on Instagram.
Some attendees also criticised guards at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested online networks to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande looked surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Many of fans had gathered in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The movie, to be premiered on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-film version of the popular Broadway and West End show Wicked, which centers on the surprising bond between two contrasting characters.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a light pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful movie of last year in the UK, and scored a dozen Academy Award nods, earning several for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
