The British player advanced to round three in three of the four Grand Slams this year.

The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her remaining competitions of the year as a result of a health issue she has been fighting over the past 10 days.

Raducanu, aged 22 had planned to participate in events in Asia but has decided to fly home to rest and recuperate before starting her preparations for 2026.

Those preparations will include her coach Francisco Roig, as the pair have agreed to work together in 2026.

Raducanu underwent blood pressure monitoring in her opening round versus Ann Li in Wuhan last week and retired when behind 6-1 4-1 on a day with extreme humidity.

She again required a visit from the doctor at the Ningbo Open this week, where she was defeated in three sets to local wildcard Zhu Lin in round one.

Raducanu was also moving with clear difficulty in the third set in the match with Zhu because of back discomfort that has been a concern on several occasions in 2025.

Such performances meant an encouraging season, in which the player advanced into the top 30 globally for the first time for the first time since 2022, ended with three successive defeats.

She held three match points before losing to American player Jessica Pegula in the third round in Beijing last month.

She secured 28 victories during 2025 and advanced to the semis in the Washington tournament, but her standout performance was at the Miami Open in March.

As Britain's top player advanced to the quarters of the WTA 1000 event, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro on the way prior to a loss in three sets to Pegula, ranked fourth.

She worked with trainer Mark Petchey from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in in time for the US Open.

The original arrangement with the ex-coach of Rafael Nadal was through the season's conclusion but the partnership will continue, with a training session scheduled late this year.

She mentioned that her three-day trial with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "black ops mission" as they tried to keep the meeting secret.

She nearly succeeded to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at the first competition with Roig in Cincinnati during August.

Roig joined her in New York, where she reached the third round prior to losing to Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
