The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie â who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up â receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
